Abstract:
This thesis proposes a methodology for the development of Semantic Rich Internt
Applications (SRIAs). Rich Internet Applications (RIAs) offer user interfaces
with a high level of interactivity, similar to desktop interfaces. They
usually embed multimedia contents and minimize the communication between
client and server components. Semantic Rich Internet Applications go one
step further and provide representations of their contents by extensively
using Semantic Web technologies.

The main contribution of this work is threefold:

- First, it defines an architecture -software modules and components- for
this type of application
-Second, it presents the Sm4RIA development process that is based on
model-driven engineering techniques.
- Last but not least, this work includes a model-driven development
environment, the Sm4RIA extension for OIDE, that implements all the elements
of the methodology.

The proposed architecture, process and development environment have been
successfully applied to several case studies, showing the feasibility of
the approach.
